Red wine sangria is such a vibrant, delicious classic. The base of red wine, spices and liqueur, is complemented by citrus fruits like oranges, limes and lemons, along with berries, apples, and sometimes even tropical fruits like pineapples. Depending on the recipe, club soda, sparkling water, or lemon lime soda can be used to add a refreshing effervescence.
Sangria is best served for outdoor gatherings like barbecues, picnics, or garden parties, especially during the warmer months when it's hot and sunny outside.
Since the sangria can be made in advance, it also makes an ideal choice for casual dinner parties, holidays or festive celebrations. Its combination of wine and fresh fruit makes it a crowd-pleaser, and it pairs well with a variety of appetizers or grilled meats.

Red Wine Sangria
Ingredients
- 1 large orange, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 large lemon, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 large lime, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 medium apple, cored and cut into thin wedges
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1/4 cup triple sec
- 1 (750 ml) bottle of dry red wine
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups club soda
- ice cubes
Instructions
- In a large pitcher or bowl, add the peeled and sliced orange, lemon, and lime. Gently muddle the citrus slices with a wooden spoon to release their juices and flavors.
- Add the apple wedges to the pitcher with the muddled citrus. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the fruit mixture and stir gently to help dissolve the sugar and coat the fruit.
- Pour the brandy and triple sec over the fruit and sugar mixture. Stir well to combine and let it marinate for about 10 minutes. This helps the fruit soak up the flavors of the alcohol.
- After 10 minutes, add the red wine to the pitcher. Drop in the cinnamon stick and stir gently to mix all the ingredients together.
- Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 6-8 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Just before serving, add club soda to the sangria to give it a slight fizz.
- Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the sangria over the ice, ensuring each glass includes some of the fruit.
