Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- To keep guacamole fresh, store it in an airtight container and press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent browning. You can also add a thin layer of lime or lemon juice on top before sealing the container. Keep it refrigerated and enjoy within 1-2 days for the best flavor.
- Guacamole can be frozen for later use by storing it in an airtight container or freezer bag, removing as much air as possible to prevent oxidation. For best results, omit ingredients like tomatoes and onions before freezing, as they can become watery when thawed. When ready to use, let it thaw in the refrigerator and give it a good stir before serving!
- If you’re not a fan of cilantro, you can easily swap it for another herb of your choice. Just be sure to pick one that complements Mexican flavors.
- You can use any type of tomato you like. If you don’t have both lemon and lime juice, you can substitute one for the other. For extra heat, add a tablespoon of diced jalapeño or a splash of hot sauce.
- TajÃn seasoning is widely available and can be found in the Mexican aisle of most grocery stores.
- Serve with tortilla chips, Fritos, or as a topping for tacos, burritos, and more.
