I have been a fan of sherbet punch since I was a kid. So I couldn't help but wonder how such a delectable drink was discovered.

Apparently, punch does not have a clear origin but is said to have been around since sometime B.C. in India. It became popular in the 17th century, thanks to the British servicemen of The East India Company. Interestingly, sherbet was said to have existed in Persia also as far back as 3000 B.C. Numerous myths and legends agree on one thing, this cold, temperature based treat was limited to royalty or the upper class (depending on the time). It was not until the 20th centry that sherbet became affordable and popular in the U.S. regardless of class. It was also first recorded in the 20th century that both punch and sherbet would come together in such a remarkable refreshment.

And now my kids get to enjoy it too!

Of course, over the years, various versions have been created. Originally, both were made with herbs and spices. The punch even started with alcohol. Now this kid friendly, party drink can be served as a non-alcoholic sherbet drink. Personally, I could drink this anytime, but the orange and cranberry is a great flavor combo for the fall holiday season.

This Cranberry Orange Sherbet Party Punch concoction is only three simple ingredients plus the garnish. The sweetness from the orange sherbet balances the tartness in the cranberry juice while the ginger ale adds that delicious bubbly, ginger flavor.

Although this is a drink you make and serve immediately, people will think you spent all day preparing it for a Christmas or Thanksgiving gathering.
