If you're looking for a quick, affordable, and kid-approved dinner idea, "Taco Tater Tots" is the answer! This fun twist on classic nachos replaces tortilla chips with crispy tater tots, creating a warm, crunchy base that pairs perfectly with flavorful taco toppings. The best part? You can have this delicious meal ready in under 30 minutes, making it a lifesaver on busy weeknights.
Start by preparing the taco meat. Simply brown ground beef, chicken or turkey in a skillet, season it with your favorite taco seasoning, and let it simmer while your tater tots oven bake or air fry to golden perfection. Once the tots are crispy, layer them with the seasoned meat and your family's favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. You can even add a sprinkle of fresh cilantro or a drizzle of hot sauce for an extra kick.
Kids love the customizable nature of this meal. It’s like a taco bar meets comfort food, and they can top their plates with exactly what they want. Plus, the ingredients are budget-friendly and easy to find, making this dish an excellent option for families on a tight schedule or budget. Whether it's a weeknight dinner or a fun party snack, Taco Tater Tots are sure to be a hit with everyone at the table!

Recipe tips and substitution ideas:
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
- Freshly shredded cheese is always recommended for better taste and melt.
- The air fryer is our favorite way to make tater tots. We usually season them with seasoned salt for this recipe. We prefer Tater Rounds instead of tots.
- Try using ground turkey or chicken instead of beef or baked potatoes, hash browns or french fries instead of tater tots.
- We use any shredded cheese, pepper jack is especially good! We've also used spinach, green onion, guacamole, salsa, hot sauce, cilantro, sliced black olives, sliced jalapenos and black beans for additional toppings!
